2008 Engineering Summer Bridge Job Positions for Current Students
Who is invited? The program is open to a select group of first-year engineering students in the Baskin School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz. The program emphasizes participation of a diverse student population, including women and students from ethnic groups which continue to have lower participation rates in engineering studies at UCSC. Limited number of slots available!
What is the purpose of this program? The goal of the program is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the people and resources that will help new students flourish as engineering students. Participants will be introduced to the academic programs, research facilities, faculty, and learning support services of the Baskin School, while also participating in team and community building opportunities.
When does the program take place? It’s a 6-day program which begins on Saturday, August 2nd (check-in is 3:00 PM) and ends on Friday, August 8th (check-out is 1:00 PM). Detailed housing and travel information will be sent out after reservations are received and confirmed.
Where does the program take place? It takes place on the UC Santa Cruz campus through the School of Engineering. A tentative program schedule and other detailed information will be sent out later.
What is provided? Only lodging (on-campus housing), meals, program materials, lots of resources, and a School of Engineering peer mentor are provided. Transportation is not provided.
What does it cost? It’s FREE. The program is FREE to participants and provides a $200 stipend to those who successfully complete the week. (The stipend may help to offset travel costs or loss of summer employment). |
