“The purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves and to assist or guide them to the point at which they become independent, successful learners. Not everyone needs tutoring. But when needed, tutoring can make a great contribution to success. ”
-MEP Tutorial Services-
Are you feeling that your course progress is not as firmly under control as you thought it would be? If so, then perhaps you might want to take advantage of tutoring services that are available in certain courses through MEP. These FREE tutoring services, offered one-on-one and in small study groups, are separate from the BSoE departments' course tutor and reader positions. Students are first encouraged to take full advantage of the TA office hours and the course tutor (if there's one) prior to seeking supplemental assistance.
Requests for Tutoring Assistance
For MEP students who need individual assistance in addition to that which they are receiving in the class, MEP employs peer tutors who are able to assist students in certain courses. MEP members who seek assistance to help overcome difficulties with academic coursework, should click on the above Tutoring Request Online link, without delay.
Peer Tutor Applications
MEP seeks to employ qualified students who are interested in helping other students to learn. MEP members who are in good academic standing and who have earned a grade of B or better in specific courses, are encouraged to complete a BSoE Tutor Application form. These may be obtained from Virginia Carrillo, 221 Baskin Engineering Bldg.
-UCSC Learning Support Services-
Tutoring is available to all UCSC students through the Learning Support Services at the Academic Resources Center (ARCenter). Students register for subject tutors in certain courses through an online tutor sign-up system. To view a list of course subjects or to learn more about these services, visit the web site at http://www2.ucsc.edu/lss/tutorial_services.shtml .
The Modified Supplemental Instruction (MSI) program at the Academics Resources Center (ARCenter) gives students the opportunity to learn together in small groups led by advanced Student Learning Assistants. To learn more about the program, visit the web site at http://www2.ucsc.edu/lss/msi.shtml .
